Unique norse luck charm, hand sculpted, wood fired wild clay. 4″
$45.00
These cheerful little fellows are based on a norwegian good luck charm i was asked to reproduce many years ago. I was told that they would be kept under the cook stove, or near the hearth in the old days, and occasionally given little gifts to encourage luck and abundance in the home…. i cant promise good luck, but in many years of making these guys, they do seem to bring great cheer and laughter among people who are cool enough to enjoy themselves.
Each one is hand formed using wild local clay, individually shaped, features are carefully drawn and driven, and textures applied. As a result, each one is absolutely unique and one of a kind, and they all have their own personality. This also means they vary in size, so check the height in the title.
I apply and wipe away a variety of oxide slips to further bring out the details, and fire in my wood kiln without glaze. This naked firing really lets the rustic beauty of the clay come through, and allows them to achieve a lovely shine which is a result of the wood ash that blows through the kiln which melts on the surface.
These happy nor-dicks make a perfect addition to the home, sitting in the kitchen, or hiding in a houseplant, they also make great gifts for a friend with a sense of humor. DECORATIVE USE ONLY! they are unglazed sculptures, use common sense hahaha
