Greenman face claw pendant. Hand sculpted wild clay, wood fired
$35.00
These pendants begin life as a little ball of clay which i pinch into a hollow closed form, they are left on the bench for much of the day so i may refine and perfect the shape as the clay becomes slightly more stiff. After piercing the holes for the cord, each design is sketched out with a long needle, completely free hand, so each one is absolutely unique. I use wooden chisels to impress the design, its slow going, and careful work, but worth the time.
Like all of my wares, these are made from local clay which i dig, and are fired to over 2350F in my wood fueled kiln. the wood ash and smoke yield a gorgeous rustic surface, exalting the beauty of the naked clay (which believe it or not, gets more beautiful as the piece is worn).
The final product is a very sturdy piece of wearable art which i string on a durable cord which is fully adjustable and will fit all sized people. Not only are these pieces very strong, being uneffected by hot, cold, or dry weather, but also waterproof. Because i make them with a hollow body, they are also much lighter than they appear, letting you make a big pendant statement, without the extra weight.
