“Stand here together” buggy jug in white stone glaze, 6.5″
$85.00
A “buggy jug” is a traditional form in the catawba valley, and also in other traditional pottery regions under other names such as “squat jug”. Its low and wide stature made it perfect for transporting liquids by cart or buggy with less likelihood of tipping over and spilling. It is also said that the low stature allowed the buggy driver to hide their little stash of strong drink behind the running board of the buggy as to keep it discreet.
This buggy jug is hand turned in the traditional way with my hand dug local clay, and inscribed with an excerpt from the song “last farewell” by british band kula shaker. “If we stand here together, we may say the last farewell, to our live of illusion, and that time we spent in hell”. It is finished in a lovely hand formulated stone ash glaze fired in my friends kiln to over 2350f. And stands just around 6.5″ tall, and roughly as wide
